The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This is in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, various policies, and the Scope and Standards of Practice. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients. They serve as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse when designated by unit assignment. Factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact are considered in care management. Educating patients and families in health promotion and disease management is a key responsibility. The RN utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology to safely administer medications. Collaboration and effective resource utilization are crucial, including in staffing and time management. Compliance with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements is mandatory. Active participation and support of nursing governance models and improvement initiatives are expected. Engagement in professional development, continuing education, and mandatory requirements is important. Nursing research and current evidence should be integrated into practice.
