The Intensive Care Unit at Corning Hospital is an 8-bed unit with all private rooms and modern technology to care for patients who need close supervision and/or constant care. The patients in the ICU range from stable (patients who just may need an IV medication or more frequent monitoring) to very critical (patients who require life support equipment and medications.) The unit is staffed by RNs and Care Techs who work closely with the Physicians, Respiratory Therapists, Pharmacists, and others to provide high quality, team-based approach to specialized care. The nurse to patient ratio is higher than on the medical surgical floors; in ICU, the ratio is 1 RN to 2-3 patients, depending on acuity. Common conditions that are treated within the ICU include acute respiratory distress syndrome, cardiac syndromes, septic shock and other life-threatening condition.

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients in an acute care environment.  Accountable for the delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, evidence-based quality care to patients and families, based on individual physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, and appropriate care strategies throughout the lifespan. Practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Essential functions and specific skills for the job are found in the unit specific onboarding checklist and in standards that are applicable to the specialty.

Associates Degree RN

1. 1 year Critical Care Nursing Preferred
2. Minimum 1year Medical Surgical experience required
