The primary purpose of the Factory Automation Engineer is to support Manufacturing Operations by performing the following duties:

  • Personally, impact and shape the startup and ramp to volume production of CREE's new 200mm Silicon Carbide Wafer FAB, based on your ideas, experience and strength in developing and implementing innovative factory automation solutions

  • Provide unique opportunity to learn, interact and integrate with all supporting groups like equipment and process engineering, manufacturing operations, industrial engineering and facilities

  • Over time, contribute to building a strong collaborative team environment by participating in interviewing team members as needed

What can you do for Cree Wolfspeed?

  • Play a lead role in setup and implementation of the fully automated material handling system in CREE's new 200mm Silicon Carbide Wafer FAB

  • Act as a subject matter expert for all factory automation tasks and AMHS equipment, proactively sustain, monitor and support 24x7 system applications, AMHS OHTC system software, MSC, MES, and other related applications

  • Start-up/commissioning, qualification and validation of automation projects

  • Testing, diagnosing and correcting errors and faults during acceptance testing to ensure expectations are met prior to warranty start

  • Own software change management and version control, able to define rollout and rollback plans prior to execute rollout

  • Develop maintenance benchmarking data/KPI's to drive improvements

  • Analyze operational and AMHS delivery performance and tool alarm data to deliver improvement in related metrics / KPI's

  • Develop automation solutions in both simulated and production environments

  • Perform troubleshooting of process, equipment, and system malfunctions or failures

  • Interact and work with vendors and internal stakeholders to identify technology limitations and deficiencies in existing systems and associated processes, procedures and methods

  • Provide technical mentorship and project related development opportunities for the engineering and technician team

  • Effectively coaches, communicates, and recognizes the right behaviors and builds effective partnerships across own team and throughout the facility

  • Define and create system recovery and troubleshooting procedures

  • Able to work modified shifts to support 24x7 team project objectives

  • This position will be based in Marcy, NY

What you need for success:

  • BS degreefrom a four-year college/university in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field

  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder (H1B visa holders depending on country of origin)

  • 5-8 years' prior work experience in a high-volume automated semiconductor wafer FABMinimum of 5 years' experience with AMHS / MCS systems in wafer FABs

  • Highly proficient with databases and data analysis tools (SQL, Access, Excel, VBA, JMP, etc.)

  • Experience in application of factory physics and operations research principals

  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills

  • High motivation with continuousdrive for improvement

Highly preferred skills

  • Specific experience in equipment and process automation within wafer FAB using commercial MES, AMHS, MCS and dispatching/scheduling solutions

  • Direct experience designing, building, deploying and supporting automation and execution systems

  • Proven experience in supporting highly automated/paperless new FAB startups, commissioning & commercial support

  • Management and execution of small to large projects/assignments from initial concept to final implementation

  • Management of automation systems maintenance.

  • Management of small to medium size capital projects

  • Ability to work independently andin teams on multiple, simultaneous projects

  • Excellent knowledge in factory physics and operations research

  • Excellent written and verbalcommunication skills

  • Excellent observational skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
