Job no: 63063Department: IMT-TelecommunicationsEmployer: State of New YorkPayroll Title: TH Staff Associate, NSSL4Bargaining Unit: UUP (State University Professional Services Unit)Salary: Commensurate with QualificationsWork type: Full-timeLocation: SyracuseCategories: Information Management & TechnologyJob Summary:The Telecommunications Engineer performs ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and programming of the campus telephone PBX systems and associated devices on a back up basis to prepare for major systems upgrades and expansions planned over the next 12 months. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting and/or coordinating preventive maintenance on the telephone systems and related peripheral equipment (such as battery back-up systems, voice mail, and ACD system), performing traffic analysis studies to ensure the proper and efficient configuration of the telephone systems, consulting with end-user departments to analyze specific telephone system requirements, and recommending, engineering solutions, and implementing necessary changes in a timely and efficient manner. In addition, the Telecommunications Engineer assists the Telecommunications Director with the planning, scheduling, and coordinating of departmental projects, investigates emerging technologies for potential application within the Upstate environment, and installs, terminates and tests telecommunications cabling in accordance with accepted standards and codes.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree and three years relevant telecommunications experience supporting and maintaining large, enterprise telephone systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent communications, organizational, project management, interpersonal and customer service skills.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with networking. Experience with SIP Trunking. Experience with managing PBX systems (esp, Ericsson/Aastra and Mitel systems), and emerging telephony technology (such as Voice-over-IP and wireless).
