Job Description LanceSoft is seeking a Nurse Practitioner General Surgery for a local contract job in Potsdam, New York. Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: General Surgery - Discipline: Nurse Practitioner - Duration: 4 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Local Contract Description: A healthcare facility in Potsdam, NY is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide locum coverage within the General Surgery department. The provider will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver comprehensive care to hospitalized patients. This role includes a combination of Surgical First Assist duties in the Operating Room and medical-surgical floor coverage. The Nurse Practitioner will assist in surgical procedures, support perioperative patient care, and manage inpatient surgical cases including rounding, documentation, orders, consults, and discharge planning. The provider will primarily support General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedic patients. Job Responsibilities: - Assist surgeons during operative procedures as Surgical First Assist. - Perform intraoperative support such as cauterizing wounds and vessels, applying clamps and sutures, and assisting with suction, drainage, and irrigation. - Assist with hemostasis and bleeding control during surgical procedures. - Position and immobilize patients appropriately during surgery to ensure circulation and surgical access. - Close surgical wounds using adhesives, sutures, or staples as directed by the surgeon. - Provide medical-surgical floor coverage, including patient rounding and progress note documentation. - Manage patient care plans including orders, consults, and discharge coordination. - Collaborate with surgical and nursing teams to ensure effective patient care and treatment outcomes. - Provide care to acutely ill adult patients with a wide range of medical conditions. Qualifications: - Board Certified Nurse Practitioner. - Active New York State Nurse Practitioner License required. - Minimum 2 years of recent surgical or inpatient experience. - Epic EMR experience required. - Certifications required: AHA BLS, ACLS, and ATLS. Working Hours: - Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM - Coverage dates: August 6–8 (3x12-hour shifts) - Additional coverage: August 21–28 (5x8s, 4x10s, or 3x12s possible) - Optional weeknight call: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM (up to 4 shifts per month) - Optional weekend call: Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM - Weekend rounding: Saturday–Sunday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM Skills: - Strong surgical assisting and perioperative care knowledge. - Ability to manage inpatient surgical cases in a fast-paced environment. - Proficiency with Epic EMR system. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities.
