One (1) Year experience serving in Med/Surg environment as a
Registered Nurse License: NYS RN Licensure Required Certifications:
BLS, ACLS Required Must-Have: Minimum one (1) year experience in a
Med/Surg environment as a Registered Nurse Description: The
Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical,
and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate
care to patients and families. The RN assesses patient needs,
develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary
team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and
coordinates care delivery throughout the patient’s episode. The
Med/Surg RN develops specialized skills in the area of cardiac care
including telemetry monitoring. The RN is accountable for patient
and family education to assist the patient and family in
understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle
changes to support health and healing. The RN applies nursing
knowledge and skill in the delivery of care by assessing patient
and family needs through active listening and social
perceptiveness. The RN creates a developmentally and
age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care
to address the nature and scope of identified health problems. In
collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare
team members, the RN sets goals and monitors the patient’s
progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or
changes in condition. The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects
the health, safety, and rights of the patient. The RN
systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing
practice and uses quality improvement activities to initiate
changes in individual nursing practice. The RN engages in
self-evaluation of practice, identifies strengths, areas of
professional development, and takes accountability to enhance
knowledge and skills. The RN uses logic and reasoning to identify
the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and
approaches to problems. The RN demonstrates skill in the
application of nursing interventions, including medication
administration. The RN motivates the patient and family by teaching
what is needed to continue care and healing at home. The RN
assesses patient and family learning styles and structures sessions
to maximize understanding. The RN seeks teachable moments during
the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information and
evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process. The RN
provides tools and information to assist the patient and family
after discharge and documents the education provided and the
patient/family response. The RN encourages mutual trust, respect,

best patient outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and
delegates tasks consistent with individual education, training, and
scope of practice. The RN complies with infection prevention
strategies and maintains competencies for the specific population

necessary tools and equipment to keep the patient and family
