Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: EEG Technologist - Discipline: Allied Health Professional - Start Date: 06/30/2025 - Duration: 13 weeks - 40 hours per week - Shift: 8 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel An EEG Technologist is a specialized healthcare professional responsible for performing electroencephalograms (EEGs) to measure and record electrical activity in the brain. These tests are primarily used to diagnose neurological disorders such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, and brain injuries. EEG Technologists work closely with neurologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality EEG readings while providing excellent care and support to patients during the procedure. /n/nKey Responsibilities:/n /n 1. /n Pre-Procedure Preparation: /n /n - Review patient medical history and physician orders to determine the appropriate EEG procedure. /n - Explain the EEG procedure to the patient, ensuring they understand the process, its purpose, and any necessary preparations. /n - Verify the patient’s identity and ensure informed consent is obtained if required. /n - Prepare and check the EEG equipment, ensuring that all equipment is functioning correctly and calibrated for use. /n - Clean and prepare the patient’s scalp by removing oils, gels, or lotions that may affect the electrode attachment. /n - Position the patient properly for the EEG procedure and ensure they are comfortable throughout the test. /n /n /n 2. /n Performing EEG Procedures: /n /n - Apply electrodes to the patient’s scalp using a conductive gel or paste to ensure proper electrical contact. /n - Monitor the patient during the EEG procedure to ensure proper electrode placement and signal quality. /n - Operate EEG equipment, ensuring the system is recording the brain’s electrical activity accurately. /n - Observe and record the patient's responses during the test, making note of any events such as seizures or other irregularities in brain activity. /n - In certain cases, conduct sleep studies or long-term monitoring EEGs as ordered by the physician. /n - Adjust equipment settings (e.g., filter, sensitivity, etc.) as necessary to obtain clear and accurate recordings. /n /n /n 3. /n Patient Comfort and Safety: /n /n - Ensure the patient’s safety and comfort during the EEG procedure, particularly if they are required to remain still or follow specific instructions (e.g., breathing patterns). /n - Address any patient concerns or discomfort and provide reassurance throughout the procedure, especially for patients who may feel anxious about the test. /n - Ensure patient privacy and dignity while positioning them for the test. /n - Monitor the patient for signs of discomfort, confusion, or distress and communicate with the healthcare team as necessary. /n /n /n 4. /n Image and Data Quality: /n /n - Review and monitor the EEG recording in real-time to ensure it is of sufficient quality for accurate diagnosis. /n - Troubleshoot any issues with the equipment or electrode connections that may affect the quality of the recording. /n - Ensure that the EEG recordings are of diagnostic quality, making adjustments or repeating parts of the test as necessary. /n - Document all relevant information regarding the procedure, including the duration, electrode placement, and any patient reactions during the test. /n /n /n 5. /n Post-Procedure Care: /n /n - Remove the electrodes from the patient’s scalp carefully and clean the scalp area to remove any conductive gel or paste. /n - Ensure that the patient is stable, comfortable, and ready to leave the testing area. /n - Provide the patient with post-procedure instructions, including any follow-up steps or appointments. /n - Assist the patient with dressing or getting ready to leave the facility if necessary. /n /n /n 6. /n Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting: /n /n - Regularly inspect, clean, and maintain EEG equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and safely. /n - Troubleshoot basic technical issues, such as poor electrode contact or equipment malfunctions, to ensure high-quality results. /n - Report any significant equipment malfunctions to the appropriate staff for further repair or replacement. /n /n /n 7. /n Documentation and Record-Keeping: /n /n - Accurately document all procedure details, including patient information, electrode placement, test duration, and any significant events or observations. /n - Ensure that EEG data and findings are stored appropriately in the electronic health record (EHR) or imaging system for easy access by physicians. /n - Maintain accurate records of all EEG procedures, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and patient confidentiality standards (e.g., HIPAA). /n /n /n 8. /n Collaboration with Medical Team: /n /n - Work closely with neurologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that EEG results are accurately interpreted and used to guide patient care. /n - Communicate effectively with the medical team about any issues with the procedure, including poor-quality data or patient reactions that may require further investigation. /n - Provide support during the review and analysis of EEG data, assisting physicians in identifying key findings and areas of concern. /n /n /n 9. /n Professional Development and Training: /n /n - Stay current with the latest advancements in EEG technology and best practices by participating in continuing education programs and workshops. /n - Obtain and maintain certifications from professional organizations, such as ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists). /n - Assist in the training and mentorship of new EEG Technologists, students, or interns in the proper techniques, equipment use, and patient care protocols. /n /n /n Magnet Medical Job ID 32507333.
