Job Title: Surgical Scrub Tech Profession: Surgical Tech Specialty: Acute: Tech: Surgical Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 4x9 hour days, call rotations and weekends as needed Hours per Shift: 9 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year experience required License: OR Tech certification required Certifications: BLS (through AHA or RQI specifically) required Must-Have: - BLS certification - OR Tech certification - Minimum 1 year experience Description: The Scrub Technician participates as a team member in the planning and implementation of patient care. Demonstrates an ability to collaborate with medical, nursing, and ancillary services to provide safe patient care. Exhibits a professional and courteous manner while handling confidential information with discretion. Cleans instruments and ensures sterility by utilizing appropriate procedures. Recognizes completion of steam autoclave and automated high-level disinfectant units. Selects equipment and supplies in an organized manner based on surgical procedures. Demonstrates competence in preparing instrument sets according to preference lists and patient history. Utilizes supplies cost-effectively. Handles and operates sophisticated equipment efficiently. Adapts readily to changes in surgical procedures. Creates and maintains a sterile field. Maintains aseptic technique at all times in accordance with standards. Opens and handles sterile supplies correctly. Performs proper surgical hand scrubbing, donning sterile gown and gloves. Sets up sterile field and receives sterile supplies from the circulator. Assists in proper draping of the patient. Initiates corrective measures when a break in sterile technique occurs. Collaborates with medical and nursing staff in providing safe patient care. Uses care with sharps to prevent injury or contamination. Follows policies and procedures for counts and maintains an adequate count of all countable items. Initiates proper protocol when counts are incorrect. Accurately draws up medication with proper labeling of all solutions and syringes. Serves as a preceptor and mentor to new employees. Assesses the surgical environment for safety, cleanliness, and compliance with regulatory standards. Supports a state of continual service readiness. Ensures a clean, safe, and orderly work and care environment.
