Under the direction of the Nurse Manager accepts responsibility/accountability for quality patient care which is family-centered, age appropriate and based on the philosophy of Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center . The process includes: Assessment, evaluation, planning, directing and re-evaluating all activities pertaining to direct and indirect nursing care given within their assigned areas. Participates as a team member by performing additional assignments not directly related to the job description when workload requires and as requested by manager. Assumes responsibilities of the nurse manager in her/his absence. Facilitates schedule through the day to increase block utilization and decrease overtime. Prepare for next day schedule and work with schedulers to set patient arrivals and spacing cases. Coordinate with floors in sending/prepping patients for surgery and finding bed placement. Works with surgeons and Anesthesia to facilitate add-on cases. Conducts daily staff assignments (OR-ACU-PACU). Maintains policies and procedures and provide ongoing education and ongoing monitoring for best practices. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, standards of care, hospital systems organization, and medical equipment used in assigned areas.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse. Must maintain current BLS certification, ACLS, and PALS. Clinical Certification within one (1) year of start date. Clinical certification preferred. Two (2) years experience in an OR setting and knowledge of AORN standards required. One (1) Year in an ACU setting required. Must possess the written and verbal skills necessary to conduct in-services, perform patient teaching and assist in writing policies, procedures, and standards.
