Job Description:

Registered Nurse or Risk Management experience with strong clinical background preferred. The Risk Management Department is responsible for the overall coordination of the system-wide program that is in place to maintain and improve patient, staff and environmental safety. What you will do: * Responsible for the overall patient safety and risk management functions related to review and response to reported events. * Responds to crisis situations that have patient safety and risk management implications and assists staff with problem solving. Responsibilities: * Conducts case finding by daily review of reported events and other information retrieved from other sources (i.e. verbal report, phone report, electronic submissions from MIDAS, and other referrals) and Initiates appropriate follow-up. * Communicates with regulatory agencies, as needed, to include but not limited to: the NYS Department of Health (DOH), Justice Center, Office of Mental Health (OMH), FDA, and other. * Coordinates overall functions including but not limited to: NYPORTS, NIMRS, Justice Center, FDA, Recalls, STARS, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) death reporting in restraints; ensuring that reporting criteria are met. * Demonstrates a strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems. * Uses appropriate tools when conducting root cause analysis, failure mode and effect analysis, gap analysis, other risk assessments. * Promotes an environment of learning and safety. * Is readily available to all staff as a resource. Education, Training, Experience, Certification and Licensure: * Bachelor s degree in appropriate discipline (nursing, healthcare related) * License applicable to education status * CPHRM, CPPS, or CPHQ desirable. (CPHRM required within 4 years) * 3-5 years healthcare related experience * Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to work with individuals across all levels of the organization as well as external regulatory agencies * Excellent computer skills * Ability to work independently and successfully integrate objectives, opportunities and resources Career Path: * Clinical ladder advancement with experience, staff engagement, and national certification. * Career advancement to leadership roles as preceptor, mentor, coordinator/management. Work Environment and Hazards: * OSHA category II. Physical Demands: * Standing, walking and sitting for prolonged periods of time. Repetitive motion of hands, fingers and wrists. * Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, push and pull.
